Athletic Trainers

Bay Area Athletic Sports Trainers

Athletic Trainers (ATs) are multi-skilled healthcare professionals who care for patients alongside physicians. Our athletic and sports trainers focus on the diagnosis and rehabilitation of injuries, emergency sideline care, as well as preventative and corrective exercise prescription.  When working collaboratively with Sports Medicine Physicians, ATs are central to achieving successful treatment.

Athletic Trainers are sometimes confused with Personal Trainers. However, the two have very different training and skills. The Athletic Training academic curriculum and clinical training follow the medical model. Trainers are required to graduate from an accredited baccalaureate or master’s program and 70% have a master’s degree.

Athletic Trainers shorten rehabilitation times for patients, which translates into less time missed from work, school or activity.  In addition, our sports trainers are able to evaluate and improve functional movements in a way that ultimately decreases reinjury rates and reduces healthcare costs.

Athletic Training Conditions Treated:

  • Acute and chronic injuries (sprains, strains, stress injuries, joint dysfunctions, etc)
  • Gait dysfunction
  • Brace fitting
  • Concussion management and education

Athletic Training Services Offered:

  • Musculoskeletal evaluation and diagnosis of injury
  • Functional and Athletic Performance Assessments
  • Musculoskeletal rehabilitation
  • Injury and re-injury mitigation
  • Manual therapies (ART, ASTYM, Myofascial Decompression)
  • Running gait analysis
  • Recovery therapy (Recovery Pump, Compex)
  • Bracing and taping

Our Athletic Training Performance & Recovery Program

Let us help you build stability, mobility, and strength to perform at the optimal level of your body’s capabilities. Our team meets you where you are and helps to build the foundation necessary to achieve your goals.

Who is our Athletic Training Program for?

  • Individuals who need (re)introduction to weight training
  • Competitive athletes with current or chronic injury
  • Individuals with mobility issues
  • Gait deficiencies

This is not for patients suffering from an immediate injury. If that is you, please schedule a consultationfor an assessment that includes both medical and athletic training in the Bay Area, so we can assess your needs.

You will leave with:

  • A better understanding of body awareness, limitations, asymmetries, or weaknesses.

  • A full written assessment of the findings and functional scores if applicable
  • At home fundamentals exercise program after the initial assessment.

We build customized plans, meeting you where you are in your training.

Dr. Jow is an absolutely amazing doctor – one of the best I’ve ever had experience with. She is not only an empathetic and thoughtful listener, but she is incredibly knowledgeable and comprehensive in her care. She doesn’t just recommend from a generic list, she tailors to you and who you are and the whole of what is going on. I had a knee injury which can be really hard to pinpoint, and she was so great about not just healing it but also appreciating my activity goals. She also has the best team! Julieta’s knowledge of muscular systems is astounding. All people should have this level of care.
